Knee jerk reaction to Oscar noms.

Blah blah blah, some thought on the noms.

Wait, Clint Eastwood sneaks into Best Actor and not Paul Giamatti? Er, no.

Phantom of the Fucking Opera is nominated for Best Cinematography over Collateral.

I know nominating Jon Brion for anything is unrealistic, but is John Williams' third score for a Harry Potter movie really one of the year's best?

I am kind of amused that they snubbed Mick Jagger in the Best Song category.

Go girl from Maria Full of Grace.

Go Mike Leigh.

What a dreadfully boring list this year.

Yup, pretty damn obvs. I liked the Mike Leigh love and the Catalina whatever her name is from Maria Full of Grace shout out. Those were nice surprises. I think the big scam, even bigger than Giamatti, is the Collateral cinematography snub. Not only is it gorgeous, it's a landmark. Shrug. It won't be the first time the Academy shows just how clueless its members are.

my problem is that eternal sunshine should have gotten more technical awards. a film that truly had some creative efforts put in (especially cinematography) and got unnoticed. gondry directed the shit out of that script and it was quite a feat to be able to pull it off. so to say that the script gets a nom, but the director and movie don't is silly. yea collateral looked great and the digital stuff was astounding. i guess mike is is a good nod, but i'd rather see a few others up there.

the third score to a harry potter movie being nominated is ridiculous. was the theme that much different this time around?

no giamattis i could see happening -- he is an unlikable character for the older members and i think put them off.

a lot of these old academy people just need to die.
